With sadness and condolences, we announce the passing of Robert Slocum, a former member of the ACORD Board of Directors and a respected leader whose career left a lasting mark on the insurance industry. His insight and integrity were deeply appreciated by his fellow Board members, the broader ACORD community, and his peers across the industry.
Beyond his contributions to ACORD, Robert built a distinguished career defined by service, leadership, and commitment. His connection to insurance began early, working as a teenager in his family’s firm, The Slocum Agency, Inc, which he later served as president of for over 30 years. He also made an impact in other leadership roles, including as President of the Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island. In 2008, he was honored as the Carleton I. Fischer Outstanding Agent of the Year.
His influence extended nationally through service with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America, ACT, and InVEST, as well as in Rhode Island through the Governor’s Insurance Council and the IIARI Board.
“Above all, he was a builder-of his profession, his community, and the family agency that carries on his legacy,” reads his obituary.
Robert’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association of Rhode Island to honor his memory.
